Badgers football stays No. 1, Tiger spikers No. 2
After a 76-50 win over Wallowa last week, the Powder Valley football squad (4-0 overall) received nine out of 10 first-place votes in the Sept. 23 1A coaches' poll, and remain as the No. 1-ranked team in the state.
Despite losing that game, Wallowa moved up one notch from seventh to sixth. The score of the Wallowa-Powder Valley game was widely misreported around the state as Wallowa beating Powder Valley 76-50. It is possible that had an effect on Wallowa's ranking.
Despite routing Prairie City 62-6 last week, Cove (3-0) moved down from eighth to ninth in the latest poll.
The en fuego La Grande volleyball girls won six matches last week (they are now 14-0 overall) and remained solidly entrenched in the No. 2 spot in the latest coaches' poll. They received one first-place vote last week, and two first-place votes this week.
The La Grande cross country boys, winners of the Wallowa Invitational and Catherine Creek Scramble in the last two weeks, moved up one notch in the latest poll from seventh to sixth.
