NORTH POWDER — Powder Valley pulled off an upset of Cove Friday night in a Special District 4 showdown.

The Badgers defeated the Leopards 40-22 to improve to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in league.

“The kids did a great job of getting up this week for a tough Cove team who does a lot of things really well on the field,” Powder coach Dan Townsend said.

“Each week in the Old Oregon league its such a fight for positioning, and this win was huge for us. Finally beating a Cove team for the first time in a long while.”

Colton Eubanks had another big game for the Badgers.

After scoring nine touchdowns last week, Eubanks rushed for 273 yards and four scores against Cove.

He had touchdown runs of 64 yards, 58 yards, 26 yards and 17 yards.

The senior is approaching 1,800 yards this season and has 25 touchdowns, according to his coach.

“Offensively we kept to our game plan of working hard up the middle and being patient,” Townsend said.

“Quin (Stephens) and (Chace) Dixon did a great job of controlling those three and four-yard runs consistently thoughout the night, which in turn really opened up things for Colton Eubanks once again.

“Colton ran hard the entire game. He’s a fun player to coach... one that doesnt come along very often.”

Dixon was 11 for 21 passing with 158 yards and one touchdown.

Tyler Robinson had 100 yards recieving on six catches with one score. Stephens added 50 yards rushing on 15 carries and one touchdown.

“The boys played their best overall game here in a long time. Defensively we played very tough football. We did a great job of staying aggressive and sticking with our responsibilities the entire game,” Townsend added.

Shae Wendt and Dixon both came up with interceptions on defense, while Stephens had 17 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

Cove drops to 4-2 overall this year and is 2-1 in league.

The Badgers and Leopards are tied for second place behind undefeated Imbler (6-0, 3-0).

Powder Valley will host Wallowa Friday, while Cove welcomes Imbler to town.
