EOU track and field teamed with Treasure Valley Community College on Friday, throwing on blue and gold colors, competing in a Mini Meet on the home track. In the field events, Quinten Baxter and Andy Munsey stole the show in the hammer event. Baxter threw 177 feet, setting a personal record. Munsey also improved, throwing an extra 12 feet than his previous personal best. Sophomore Cayla Weissert opened her outdoor season with a personal best 11-feet, 6-inch mark in the pole vault, surpassing the NAIA auto standard for the Outdoor National meet. In the track events, Melisa Abesa won both the 100-meter and 200-meter races and Chelsee Harmon ran the 400-meter race well. Also, Marcella Bosch won the 1500-meters. For the men, Chris Hoppie ran 14.85 in the 110-meter high hurdles, just missing the NAIA provisional mark of 14.84. In the 1500-meter race, Doug Benson and Jeff Roy ran personal bests. EOU will compete in the Linfield Decathlon/Heptathlon in McMinnville Monday. “For the weather and for the semi-organized chaos, it went pretty well,” EOU coach Ben Welch said. “We worked hard this week. We didn’t really back off at all. “I was really happy with that.” |
