Bobcats bully Echo, Tigers fall at Riverside

ECHO — Union warmed up in the first game against Echo, and let loose in Game 2 to sweep its season opening games.

Brittany Josephson belted two home runs on the day, and picked up three hits in Game 2.

Jessy Reynolds picked up both wins. The sophomore picked up 15 strikeouts in 10 innings.

La Grande slips at Riverside

RIVERSIDE — The Tigers softball team felt stranded in Riverside.

La Grande fell to the Pirates 12-4, leaving eight runners stranded in scoring position.

Boo Christman took the loss on the mound, but finished with two hits and an RBI.

Carlie Miller collected three hits in the game.

Late push carries Union

JOHN DAY — A two-out rally helped lead Union over Umpqua Valley Christian.

The Bobcats defeated Umpqua Valley Christian 5-4.

Late singles by Kyle Langford, Ritter Warren and Kaden Titus fueled the three-run seventh inning.

Austin Woodward picked up the win, and Brian Savely worked a scoreless seventh for the save.

Sofe takes hurdle events

PENDLETON — Nur Sofe led La Grande at the Buick Classic in Pendleton.

Sofe won both hurdle events for the Tigers.

Jess McClune paced Elgin in her first meet of the year.

McClune finished first in the 200-meter dash, and placed second in the 100-meter high hurdles.

UMATILLA — Nick West dominated the hurdle events at the Umatilla Ice Breaker meet Friday.

West also took second in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 23.62.

Stephanie Anthony’s mark of 14.01 placed her second in the 100-meter dash. She took third in the long jump with a 14-10.5 jump.
