PENDLETON — Playing on a new parquet floor helped and hindered the Union boys basketball team Friday.

The Bobcats opened with a flurry against Enterprise in a 58-40 win at the Blue Mountain Conference District Tournament.

Enterprise found itself in a 28-7 hole after nine minutes of play.

The Pendleton Convention Center features a floor donated by the Phoenix Suns — 3-point lines and all.

Union felt comfortable from NBA and high school range.

Senior Kyle O’Brien opened the game with two 3-point field goals, and his team followed suit.

O’Brien finished with nine points.

“I wish they would scrap (the NBA line) off,” Union head coach Brett Dunten said. “The boys see that, and don’t know where to shoot from. We can hit shots from out there, but we don’t need to add on any extra length.”

Union’s fire ran out of gas in the second half, and Enterprise attempted to dig itself out of the huge hole.

The Bobcats finished the game shooting 6-of-37 from the floor (16 percent).

“We couldn’t hit anything,” Dunten said. “The boys seem to get content with the lead. That’s something we can’t afford to do in the district tournament.”

The Outlaws trimmed the lead to six, but couldn’t draw any closer.

Senior Kaden Titus led Union with 15 points.

Matt Fisher paced the Outlaws with 16 points.

Union will play Heppner for the third seed in the conference at 3 p.m. today.
