Carson, Kleck lead LHS

By The Observer

THE DALLES Travis Carson and Adam Kleck went undefeated Friday for the La Grande Tigers at a four-way dual meet here.

Carson won all three of his matches and Kleck won two matches and a forfeit.

Carson, at 152 pounds, beat Justin Shoemaker of Camas, Wash., 11-4, then pinned Eric Coffan of Central in the third round. He closed the day with a third-round pin of Peter Osborne of The Dalles.

At 160, Kleck beat Ryan Smith of Camas 7-1, then won a second-round technical fall over Grant Harman of The Dalles.

La Grande put a lot of younger wrestlers into competition in the meet, the first of the season.

What I expected of the first matches of the season was to get some matches under our belt for some of these younger kids, La Grande coach Miles Hancock said. It was tough throwing some of those inexperienced kids at the varsity level.

Tony Lambert (135), Joseph Waite (189) and Jacob Simonis (215) were three of the new wrestlers to pick up wins.

La Grandes Austin Zander, a state placer last year, did not make weight at 119 and had to wrestle 125, where he ran into The Dalles Colt Brace, who pinned Zander in the third round.

Zander pinned Centrals Arito Waterman in the third round for his win.

In JV competition, Tony Shaw at 135 and Dennis OReilly at 160 won two matches each. Shawn Hescock at 140 won a match.

La Grande hosts Lewiston, Idaho, for a 5 p.m. dual meet Wednesday.
