ISLAND CITY — La Grande earned one last grade before spring break.

Tigers coach Kevin Kohr gave his team a B after an 8-1, 9-3 sweep against Grant Union Saturday.

“Things are starting to come together,” Kohr said. “We won every inning, and that is our goal. If you can do that, you’re going to do well in the win column.”

It took a while for La Grande to get the bats going on a blustery day.

Jenny Denny put the Tigers out in front with a two-out single in the fourth inning.

That opened the door and the entire La Grande line-up starting finding open grass in the outfield.

“The girls made the adjustments,” Kohr said. “You couldn’t hit anything to the left side. It was just going to die in the wind. We started hitting up the middle and to the right side.”

Cami Bell shut down the Prospectors at the plate.

Bell pitched seven innings, and surrendered three hits.

La Grande found its way into trouble in the sixth inning.

Grant Union had runners on second and third with one out.

Following a comebacker to Bell, the inning ended on a ground out to the second baseman.

“The girls did make a few mistakes in the game,” Kohr said. “But this time the errors didn’t continue to add up. We were able to make the plays when we needed them.”

At the plate Bell went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Boo Christman handled the Prospectors in Game 2.

The sophomore allowed three runs on four hits.

“We got two great pitching performances today,” Kohr said. “Cami and Boo did a great job mixing things up and staying focused. Plus we played sound defense. The girls are getting more confident in what they’re doing.”

Freshman Sidney Brown drove in three runs in the game.

Bell continued her hot hitting with three hits.

La Grande will host Pilot Rock at 2 p.m. Friday.

The Tigers will follow with a game against Nysaa at 4 p.m.
