The Clarkston Bantams ruled the roost at the Enterprise High School 2012 Kick-Off wrestling tournament Friday.
McLoughlin High of Milton-Freewater placed second in the 12-way meet.
Wallowa County’s top finishers of the tournament were Blake Sherrod, a Joseph High School senior, who was the champion of the 126-pound weight class, beating Brighton Lejameyer, a freshman from Clarkston, in the final round.
Enterprise’s Kurt Norton won the 285-pound class against William Pither, a junior from Baker City.
In the most exciting round of the afternoon, Joseph sophomore Jared Wilcox was beaten in a decision by Shane Miller, a junior from Adrian, in the 152-pound division. Matthew Staigle, an Enterprise junior, lost in the final round to Jacob Waller, a Clarkston senior, in the 195- pound class. Wyatt Warnock, a Joseph junior, lost in a decision in the final match to Tim Nelson, a senior from Heppner.
Lars Skovlin, an Enterprise freshman, took third in the 106-pound class, beating Luiz Menchez, a Wallowa sophomore.
Kyle Roepke, an Enterprise junior, beat out Alex Smith, a Heppner senior, for third place in the 145-pound division.
Raymond Seal, a 120- pound freshman from Joseph, placed fourth in the consolation round against Chance Valpey, a junior from Clarkston.
David Madsen, an Elgin junior, placed fourth in the 182-pound weight class against third-place finisher Beau Birdwell, a McLoughlin High junior.
Freshman Chad Witty of Union took third against Earl Propheter, a Heppner senior.
Jordan Vermillion, an Elgin sophomore, placed fourth against Treston Maben, a Heppner junior, in the 160- pound class.
Enterprise hosted 12 teams at the Kick Off meet including Adrian, Baker, Clarkston, Elgin, Enterprise, Heppner, Irrigon, Joseph, McLoughlin (Milton-Freewater), Pine Eagle, (Halfway), Union and Wallowa.
