 TRAIL BLAIZ’ING: Calhoun will represent Oregon in Australia at the Down Under Games. - The Observer/DICK MASON COVE — Cove High School volleyball player Blaiz Calhoun is about to experience a change of seasons.
Calhoun, an upcoming junior at Cove, will soon leave for Australia where she will represent Oregon at the Annual Down Under International Games on the Gold Coast of Queensland.
Australia, like all countries in the southern hemisphere, is now experiencing winter.
Calhoun will play in a two-day volleyball tournament, July 16-17, at the games.
The CHS student was selected to play in the tournament by International Sports Specialists, Inc., which puts on the games.
Calhoun will spend seven days on the Gold Coast where she will visit a wildlife sanctuary, a theme park and more. She will also have the option of making trips to the Great Barrier Reef and going parasailing and deep sea fishing.
Volleyball became a part of the Down Under International Games in 1999. Volleyball players from the United States and Australia compete each year.
Calhoun will be gone through July 23. Her trip will also include a three to four day stop in Hawaii on the island of Oahu.
