Cove’s Morris edges field for district title

PENDLETON — Cove’s Sergio Morris won the Special District 4 golf tournament Tuesday at Pendleton County Club. Morris shot an 84 on Day 1 and came back with an 85 Tuesday for a two-day total of 169 to earn the title. Morris was four strokes better than that of Enterprise’s Cody Hopkins and Nyssa’s Ryan Horton, who both finished at 173. Pierce Millar of Wallowa shot had a total of 175, while Enterprise’s Brock Hayes ended up with a 178. Jordan Wulff (182) and Cody Duquette (186) also had top-10 finishes for the Outlaws. Cody Fouts led Union with a 192, one stroke better than that of Dakota Jenkins of Enterprise. Karl Wellens tied with Nyssa’s Levi Elizondo with a 195, while Union’s Chance Whipple finished at 197. For the girls, Union’s Ali Kirby won the Special District 7 tournament after shooting a two-day total of 169. Wallowa’s Shawna Chrisman finished ninth with a total of 206, while Hayley Riggers led the Enterprise charge with a 221. Teammate Jill Morton was right behind with a 227, and McKenna Miller finished with a 232. Brie Bunkers was Union’s next best finisher at 262, while Rachelle Southard shot 272. For full results, see the Scoreboard. The state tournament is scheduled to start Monday and finish Tuesday for both the boys and girls. The boys will play at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, while the girls will compete at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Redmond. |
