EASTERN DROPS TWO
KANEOHE, Hawaii The Eastern Oregon softball team dropped a doubleheader to Hawaii Pacific University Sunday.
Eastern (3-5) was swept 8-0 in the opener and 2-1 in the second game.
HPU scored its runs in bunches in the first game. Eastern had gone two weeks without playing a game and could not crank out enough offense to counter that.
Eastern only got three hits from 20 total at-bats.
Kathy Bielemeier pitched the entire game and allowed eight hits.
In the second game, HPU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead.
Eastern stranded one runner in the third and fourth innings.
The bases were loaded for the Mountaineers in the sixth inning, but Beth Hull lined out to second.
Nikki Schultz scored Easterns lone run in the seventh inning. After Schultz ran in for the score, Eastern had one last chance to tie the game.
However, Megan Brock struck out swinging and Tonilynn Reardon grounded out to third stranding, Julie Pollastro at second base.
Katie Martin struck out three and allowed four hits in six innings.
