EASTERN PREPARES FOR QUINN CLASSIC

The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers will host three teams Friday through Sunday for the fourth annual Quinn Classic mens basketball tournament.

Eastern will play first-year program Golden State Baptist College of Santa Clara, Calif., at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Quinn Coliseum. Eastern also has the nightcap Saturday, playing Carroll College of Helena, Mont., at 7:30.

Saturdays early game will feature Trinity Western University of Langley, British Columbia, vs. Golden State Baptist, at 5:30.

Trinity Western again plays Sunday, at 1:30 p.m., against Carroll.

Eastern has won both its preseason games, including a come-from-behind 70-68 win Tuesday over Whitman. Trevor Exline, a 6-foot-3 junior forward, has scored 30 points on 63 percent shooting in those games.

Exline started Tuesday in place of 6-4 forward Neil Collins, who was sick and is day-to-day.

Golden State (0-5) is led by 6-foot-4 freshman forward Jeremy Brown, who is averaging 12.5 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game.

Carroll (5-3) features 6-3 senior guard Kirk Stiles, the teams leading scorer with 16.5 points per game. Gary Lynch, a 6-3 junior guard, is scoring 15.4 points per game.

Trinity Western (4-10 overall, 1-7 Pacific Division, Canada West Conference) is led by 6-2 junior guard Tyler Coston, who has 12.6 points per game.

Tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens. Students under 12 years old are admitted free with a paid adult.

The tournament is sponsored by The Observer, Howard Johnson and Boise Cascade.
