EASTERN REACHES REGION SOFTBALL TOURNEY

PORTLAND — A pair of one-run victories Wednesday put the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers into the NAIA Region I Softball Tournament.

Eastern (19-17) beat Seattle University 5-4 in eight innings and 7-6 in the best of three play-in series at Portland's Delta Park.

The reward? A game this morning against No. 2 Simon Fraser.

In the first game, Adrienne Fullmer's RBI single in the top of the eighth inning scored Majalise Watson for the go-ahead run.

Katie Martin then pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth for her 11th win of the season.

Seattle (20-17) had taken a 3-1 lead after two innings. Eastern added a run in the third on a run-scoring single by Megan Brock. Two more runs scored in the fifth when Katelyn Tatum singled home two more runs.

Seattle tied the game in the bottom of the fifth.

Eastern had 18 hits, all singles, and left 13 of those batters on base.

Martin was 4-for-5 at the plate, while Missy Bonanno went 3-for-4 and Fullmer went 3-for-5.

Bonanno added two more hits and two RBIs in the second game. Her double in the fourth inning scored two runs and gave Eastern a 5-3 lead.

That game started with a two-run home run from Eastern's Beth Hull in the first inning.

Seattle eventually tied the game 6-6 in the sixth inning. An RBI single by Watson scored Julie Pollastro for the winning run.

Kathy Bielemeier pitched four innings for her seventh win of the year, and Martin pitched the last three innings for the save.

Earlier Wednesday, Watson was named to the All-Region I team as an outfielder. The senior hit .382 this season and led the Mountaineers with 39 hits.
