EASTERN SOFTBALLERS WILL TRAVEL TO HAWAII

Eastern Oregon Universitys softball team will be playing among pineapples and under palm trees later this month.

The team is heading to Hawaii March 24-27 for a spring break tournament.

Most athletic programs across the country try to do similar trips in order to compete in recruiting, provide a memorable experience for their teams, and even create vacation opportunities for parents and boosters, Eastern athletic director Rob Cashell said.

Eastern (3-3) will play Hawaii Pacific University (10-6), Brigham Young University-Hawaii (7-10) and Chaminade University (12-10).

EOU softball coach Anji Weissenfluh said the team is looking forward to the experience.

The girls have worked very hard through fund-raisers or with their own money to make this trip happen, Weissenfluh said.
