EASTERN TEAMS GO DOWN TO THE WIRE WITH SOU

The Eastern women rallied again to defeat Southern Oregon 74-71 in Cascade Collegiate Conference basketball Friday.

With the victory, the Eastern women vaulted past Oregon Tech and Northwest into sole possession of first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference with a 6-1 conference record. Oregon Tech, which had been in first place, was upset by Albertson, while Northwest lost to Evergreen State.

Four Mountaineers scored in double figures with Christy Smith pouring in 18 points, followed by Candice Davis' 14, Michelle Kinley's 13 and Cory Nelson's 10.

The Raiders shot 41.7 percent to lead 34-28 at halftime. In the second half, the Mountaineers shot 50 percent to outscore the Raiders 46-37.

The Mountaineers scored 26 points off turnovers and dominated the paint with 40 inside points.

Kinley had 11 rebounds. Smith had eight steals and Haddock, the assists leader in the CCC, dished out nine assists.

The Mountaineers (6-1 CCC, 12-2 overall) host Oregon Tech at 5:30 p.m. today. The Tech women will be looking to take out their frustration on the first-place Mountaineers after they blew a 16-point lead to Albertson Friday night.

Jenna Ayers led Southern Oregon (4-4, 5-10) with 19 points.
