ELGIN BASEBALL BEGINS SEASON WITH 2 SHUTOUTS
ELGIN The Elgin Huskies opened their Wapiti League baseball season with a pair of shutout victories over Prairie City on Saturday.
Elgin pounded the Panthers for 14 hits in a 22-0 win in the first game, then cruised to a 10-0 win in the second game.
Its a nice way to start the league off, Elgin coach Gordie Simons said. Were just coming together real well defensively.
The Huskies made just one error in the two games. Tyler Davis pitched a two-hitter in the first game and Skyler Payne followed with a three-hitter.
Tyler threw an excellent game, Simons said. Payne dug himself out of a couple of holes there a time or two.
Davis also had four hits in the first game, while Ryan McKone contributed three hits. Payne and Brock Eckstein each drove in three runs.
In the second game, Codi Burgess and Eckstein each had two hits.
Elgin hosts the McLoughlin JV today.
