ELGIN SOFTBALL SWEEPS LG JV

ELGIN — The bats were swinging for the Elgin Huskies in their non-league softball doubleheader against the La Grande JV team Tuesday.

The Huskies swept the Tigers 10-1 and 6-4.

"That was the best the girls played all year," Elgin coach Brian Hayes said. "The girls know it."

Ashley Hogan pitched a four-hitter in game one. She gave up three walks and struck out 11.

Lacie Heighes batted 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. She had a triple in the first inning.

Leanne Foster was 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three stolen bases. Hogan was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Stacey McKinnis was 2-for-2 with a double.

Game two went back and forth before the Huskies snapped a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning. Two Huskies stole home to put them up 6-4.

The Tigers scored the first run by stealing home in game two. Heighes tied it with a one-run double followed by Foster's one-run single to put the Huskies up 2-1.

The Tigers tied it in the third by stealing home.

Then, the Huskies went ahead again with McKinnis' one-run single and Hogan's one-run double to push the lead to 4-2.

In the fifth, the Tigers tied it off an RBI and by stealing home.

With runners on second and third base in the sixth, McKinnis delivered a strike to end the Tiger threat.

McKinnis relieved Foster on the mound in the fourth and picked up the win.

Heighes went 3-for-3 in game two with an RBI and double. McKinnis was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Hogan was 2-for-3 with a RBI and double.

The Huskies resume league play at home Friday against Pine-Eagle.
