GOING TO BE A BRONCO: Elgin's Amber Looslie is one of the best girls' middle-distance runners in the state. She signed a letter of intent with Boise State this week. (The Observer/File photo).

ELGIN —Elgin senior track runner Amber Looslie has signed a letter of intent to run track and cross country for Boise State University next year.

Looslie had the top 1A/2A 800-meter girls' time in the state last year at 2 minutes, 17 seconds.

In addition to running the 800, Looslie also had some excellent times last year in the 400- and 1500-meter runs, in spite of having to come back from a sprained knee she sustained during the winter.

Looslie's best 400-meter time of 59.64 last season was also among the best in the state. A time of 59.53 by an Amity runner won the title at the state 2A meet.

Looslie signed a letter of intent to run middle distances for Boise State. The university has agreed to offer her some financial assistance. The amount of that assistance will be based somewhat on how good her times are this season.

Looslie is a three-sport athlete. She plays volleyball and basketball for the Huskies. Her mother, Kathy Looslie, said Amber is training extremely hard and is determined to win a title next spring at the state track championships.
