ENTERPRISE BOYS LEAD TOURNEY
CORVALLIS The Enter-prise boys were leading after the first day of the 2A/1A boys golf state tournament at the Trysting Tree Golf Club Monday.
Enterprise had a 318 to pace the tournament. Derek Huff was tied for seventh overall with a 78 (41-37). Grady Rawls shot 79 (38-41), followed by Kevin Gomes with an 80 (40-40), Nathan Slinker's 81 (42-39) and Jake Thompson's 87 (42-45). Echo was second with a 325. In third was Reedsport and Santiam Christian (329) and Regis (330).
La Grande boys 21 strokes off lead
REDMOND A frost delay stalled the 3A boys golf state tournament for an hour Monday at the Eagle Crest Resort Course, but it turned out to be a gorgeous day for the La Grande team.
The Tigers were sitting in second place after posting a 328 on the first day of the tournament. Tyler Tucker was third overall with his 76. He shot 37-39. Bill Waldrop was tied for fourth (38-39 77). Next was Todd McAndie (43-42 85), Nick Cornford (42-48 90) and Ricky Gloria (41-53 94).
Sisters is first (307), followed by the Tigers and Siuslaw (333), Tillamook (341) and Taft (345).
Enterprise girls going strong at state
REDMOND The Enter-prise girls found themselves in 10th place after the first day of the 3A/2A/1A girls golf state tournament at the Eagle Crest Ridge Course Monday. They shot 409.
Kayla Miller was ninth with an 87 (48-39). Jessica Marcum shot 96 (46-50), followed by Kayla Stoffel's 101 (49-52), Lacey Nobles' 125 (64-61) and Tera Phinney's 132 (67-65).
Greenough leads 3A/2A/1A tourney
REDMOND La Grande's Kelli Greenough was tied for the lead and had her team tied for sixth place after the first round of the state Class 3A/2A/1A golf tournament Monday.
The final round is today.
Greenough, a senior, shot an 80 on Eagle Crest Resort's Eagle Ridge course. She is tied with Anna Jarmillo of Ontario and Emily Vaughn of Reedsport. Greenough carded a 42-38.
Reedsport was in first place with 367. Tillamook had 372, La Salle and Wilsonville were both at 373, Seaside was at 393, and La Grande and Taft were at 394.
Rounding out La Grande's scoring were Bess Buzzard at 96, Elizabeth Garton at 108, Elizabeth Esser at 110, and Aubrey Glaze at 112.
La Grande coach Lonnie Myers said he was "just tickled to death'' that the girls were in the top 10 and is excited about their chances in the final round.
Esser said "some of the girls are disappointed, but we're looking forward to doing better.''
Greenough carded a 42-38.
Reedsport is in first place with 367.
Tillamook has 372, La Salle and Wilsonville are both at 373, Seaside is at 393, and La Grande and Taft are at 394.
