ENTERPRISE CROSS COUNTRY BOYS WIN WESTON-MCEWEN INVITE
WESTON The Enterprise boys won the Weston-McEwen Cross Country Invitational Tuesday, with a one-two finish and five runners in the top 20.
Enterprise's Michael Swart won the 5,000-meter race in 18:02 minutes. Teammate Andy Vernarsky was second with a 18:23 effort.
Chris Lozier finished ninth in 19:37, Andrew Gorbett was 14th in 20:29, Nathan Slinker was 18th in 20:59 and Derek Huff was 32nd in 22:50.
Pendleton, Stanfield, Umatilla and Waitsburg, Wash., had complete boys' teams.
Elgin's Michael Gibson was 37th in 24:02.
Enterprise did not have a complete girls' team but Enterprise again came through with a one-two punch. The fastest runners on the 5,000-meter course were Krista Stangel and Julie Vernarsky.
Stangel won the race in dominating fashion in 20:35, while Vernarsky was second in 22:50.
Nicole Anderson came in 14th in 25:46, and Christina Cunningham was 34th in 36:32.
Pendleton, Weston-McEwen, Stanfield and Umatilla had complete girls' teams. The Pendleton girls' team won.
Elgin's Kelsey Davis was fourth in 23:41.
Enterprise heads to the Umatilla Invitational Oct. 3.
