EOLS RODEO CHUTES OFF
UNION There'll be dirt and cowboys alike flying this weekend as the 96th annual Eastern Oregon Livestock Show kicks off Friday.
The PRCA rodeo events begin at 4 p.m. Friday, and gear up again at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Some of the top cowboys in the country will be saddling up in Union.
Among them are:
Bareback rider Cole McCall of Cody, Wyo. McCall will be riding Friday.
In the saddle bronc Friday will be local products Nate Filbin of Elgin, George Gillespie of Elgin and Blake West of Union.
Top bull rider Shad Bruhn of Roy, Wash., will also take to the chute on Friday.
On Saturday, Jason Havens of Redmond, who is 11th in the PRCA Rodeo Tour Standings with 58.5 points, will compete.
Local bull rider Vic Dubray of La Grande will also compete Saturday.
Sunday, bareback rider Sean Culver of Grandview, Wash., will take to the arena, while Cody Jessee of Prineville will make a return to the EOLS in the bareback riding competition.
Jessee is one of the top riders in the country, ranked 19th at the moment in Jack Daniel's World Standings bareback earnings at $12,125. Bobby Mote of Redmond, another veteran of the EOLS, will be back. He is 20th in bareback earnings at $11,980.
Dan Mortensen, one of the top saddle bronc riders in the country, will make a return to the EOLS Sunday. He won the saddle bronc at the livestock show rodeo last year.
Mortensen of Billings, Mont., is seventh in the Jack Daniel's World Standings in saddle bronc with $25,100 in earnings.
Bull rider Vince Stanton of Weiser, Idaho, will also ride Sunday. He is ranked fourth in the PRCA standings with 59.5 points.
