After two rodeos in La Grande this past weekend, Eastern Oregon is fifth overall in the Northwest Region on the men's and women's side.

Eastern coach Russ Evans said it was hard for the team to both work the rodeos and compete. However, they are not far off in points and there will be a couple more rodeos in the spring to earn points, he said.

"We've still got a shot at it," Evans said.

The Northwest Regional Rodeo No. 2 was Friday and the Eastern Oregon Rodeo was Saturday and Sunday at the Mavericks Arena.

In the Eastern Oregon Rodeo, Casey and Beckijo Smergut were fourth in team roping Saturday but broke the barrier in Sunday's short-go. Amber Aichele was third in breakaway roping Saturday but broke the barrier in Sunday's short-go.

On Friday, Eastern's Katie Garijo was second in barrel racing. Eastern's Shaun Lequerica teamed with Teo Maestrejuan of Walla Walla Community College to take sixth in the team roping Friday.
