EOU FOOTBALL LOOKS TO REBOUND SATURDAY
The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers football team will look to bounce back from its tough 24-21 loss to Montana-Western last Saturday, when it takes the field against the Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks 1 p.m. Saturday at Community Stadium.
The Warhawks have eight starters on offense and five on defense from last year's team that finished 5-5 overall and 2-5 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Mount Union College of Ohio, the NCAA III defending champion of the Ohio Athletic Conference, beat the Warhawks 44-21 last Saturday.
In the loss, Warhawks' two-time second team all-WIAC running back Chad Wurth rushed 26 times for 114 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Reggie Stauss completed 12 of 23 passes for 127 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Sean Erner grabbed five passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Eric Salopek led the defense with four solo and three unassisted tackles.
In its season debut, EOU put up decent offensive numbers, gaining 301 total yards, but the Mountaineers struggled on defense, giving up 422 yards.
