EOU WINS ONE IN WEEKEND SERIES

The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers managed to win one of four baseball games this weekend against Central Washington.

Easterns lone win came in Sundays first game, a 16-7 victory that saw the Mountaineers build a 10-2 lead after two innings. Sundays second game ended in a 9-6 loss, while Eastern also lost 7-5 and 12-6 on Saturday.

All three of those losses came in the last inning.

On Saturday, Central (19-17 overall, 10-8 NAIA Region I) broke a 5-all tie with two runs in the top of the seventh. Easterns Tommy Porter was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Izzie Acosta was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

In the second game, Centrals Joe Reed hit a grand slam home run in the top of the 10th, part of a six-run inning. Devron Carriere and Porter had home runs for the Mountaineers in that game. Carriere was 2-for-5 with two RBIs Scotty Tondevold was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a triple.

Sundays win saw six Mountaineers get two hits each, with Brandon Davis going 2-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs. Tondevold was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, and Carriere was 2-for-3. Will Bogdonoff was 2-for-2, as was Izzie Acosta, who had three RBIs. Robert Dorchak was 2-for-3, and Danny Jacques had three RBIs.

Eastern pitcher Ryan Banks went the distance, giving up 10 hits and six walks, but only four earned runs.

Central scored four runs in the top of the ninth of Sundays second game. Easterns Dan Curfew was 2-for-5 in that game, and Tondevold and Jacques each had two RBIs.

Eastern (5-21, 4-14) travels to Vancouver, British Columbia, next weekend for a four-game series against the University of British Columbia. The teams will play single games Friday and Sunday, with a doubleheader Saturday.
