EOU brings back win from Butte

BUTTE, Mont. — The Mountaineers football team struggled for three years to pick up a road win in the Frontier Conference, but after one last week the new trend continued.

EOU eclipsed Montana Tech in Butte, Mont., 32-20 Saturday. The win pushed the Mountaineers’ record to 3-0 in conference and 3-1 overall.

Thomas Akers opened the scoring for the away team with a 27-yard field goal in the first quarter.

Kirk Miller scampered in from 12 yards out to give EOU a 10-7 lead before the half.

Kevin Sampson continued to show what he can do in the run game, picking up 120 yards on eight attempts. Sampson opened the third quarter scoring with a 39-yard touchdown run.

Chris Ware completed 27 of his 35 pass attempts for 289 yards. Ware found Miller and Jordyn Jackson on scoring plays of 10 and 20 yards, respectively.

EOU hosts Montana State University-Northern Northern Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Lights, ranked No. 16, stumbled at home against Montana Western, falling 27-21.
