EOU finishes 11th at national championship
LAWRENCE, Kan. — The Eastern Oregon University men’s cross country team finished 11th at the NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan., on Saturday morning.
Isaac Updike led the way for the Mountaineers, finishing 24th overall with a time of 25 minutes, 04.91 seconds. Updike finished a minute behind the race’s winner, Southern Oregon’s Eric Avila.
Updike's finish earns him all-American honors for the Mountaineers.
Kody Shriver finished second for EOU, 20 seconds behind Updike. Shriver finished 46th and ran the 8K course in a time of 25:24.97. The finish capped a strong season for the EOU duo, who finished every meet as the top two runners for Eastern Oregon.
Hans Roelle finished 55th overall with a time of 25:31.33, while Nic Maszk finished 116th overall with a time of 26:05.41.
As a team, the Mountaineers finished with 320 points, 40 points behind 10th place Bryan (Tenn.).
Oklahoma City won the team title with a score of 77, ahead of Cascade Conference champion Southern Oregon, which placed second with a team score of 124. Emmanuel (Ga.) placed third (148), St. Francis (Ill.) placed fourth (157), and Aquinas (Mich.) fifth (185). College of Idaho finished with 518 team points.
