The Mountaineers let a golden moment slip away Friday in Quinn Coliseum. EOU dropped a five-game match to No. 7 College of Idaho 25-23, 19-25, 20-25, 28-26, 7-15. “We’re still battling to find more consistency,” Mountaineers head coach Kaki Morehead said. Jessica Lea had a big night for EOU. She recorded the final kill in the opening game, and finished with 13 in the match. Lea added 19 assists and 13 digs.Games 2 and 3 were marked by poor coverage. The Coyotes dinked the EOU defense playing back for the big hits. “It goes back to our main area of focus,” Morehead said. The Mountaineers didn’t give up, battling in Game 4. The College of Idaho jumped out to a small lead and fought off game-point twice. Melanie Ceciliani put the match away on the third attempt with an assist from Lea. Errors handed the Coyotes their first three points in the race to 15. EOU dug a deeper hole and couldn’t climb back out. “It’s not all bad,” Morehead said. “We know we can play with anyone in this conference.” Grace DeBoodt led the Mountaineers with 14 kills and 20 digs. La Grande graduate Katherine Ely led the Coyotes with 16 kills. The Mountaineers will play again at home next weekend against Evergreen State College and Northwest University. Both games are set for 7 p.m. |
