EOU'S CUSHMAN RESIGNS
Eastern Oregon University football head coach Rob Cushman announced his resignation Wednesday, following a meeting with Harris Shelton, vice president for student affairs and Rob Cashell, athletic director.
Its always disappointing to lose a coach, and Rob has been a part of the program for a long time, Cashell said. But we are looking to continue building a strong football program at EOU that involves the players, the university and the community.
Cushman was unavailable for comment this morning.
Since taking over as head football coach in 1997, Cushman compiled an 18-31 record in five seasons with the Mountaineers, including a 1-8 record this season.
Cushmans best year was 1998, when the team went 6-4. His 1999 team set school records for rushing yards and total yards and the 2000 team set a school record for total plays.
Cushman had also served as an assistant football coach and head coach of the Eastern baseball team for nine years.
Plans for a replacement have not been announced. More information will be released next week, according to Shelton.
