The No. 11 Eastern Oregon University volleyball team extended its win streak to 11 games with Cascade Conference wins over Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon this weekend.
The Mounties swept the Owls (25-11, 25-13, 25-17) Friday night.
“They played great tonight,” EOU head coach Kaki Morehead said. “They had a lot of momentum, a lot of consistency, and the girls played at a high level the entire match.”
The Mountaineers (17-2, 7-0) jumped on Oregon Tech in the opening set, taking a 9-3 advantage out of the gates. OIT cut the score to 12-7 before EOU went on a 10-2 run to make it 22-9.
EOU scored three of the next five points to win the first set.
“It’s a huge part of the game,” Morehead said of getting the lead early. “With rally score, and with the way the game is now — it’s so fast — it’s important to get an early start if you can.”
The Mountaineers jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the second set and had an 11-5 lead early in the third set before going on to win easily.
Seven EOU players finished with a kill, led by Casey Loper’s match-high 13. Stefani Sorensen added nine, Taylor Stewart had eight and Katie Keeney finished with four. Karly Stack added 20 assists.
Mounties sink Raiders
EOU won a five-set thriller Saturday night over Southern Oregon. The Mountaineers won 16-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 15-13.
Eastern Oregon rode the arms of Loper and Sorensen again. The duo both recorded 18 kills.
“Our team played well in the times that mattered tonight against a tough Southern Oregon team,” Morehead said.
