CORVALLIS — A day at the park didn’t turn into a picnic for the home team, Santiam Christian. Elgin/Imbler broke up the Class 3A quarterfinal party with a 3-1 win Friday. Sophomore Tara Ludwig got Elgin/Imbler off to the right start with a double in the first inning to drive in the first run of the game. From there, her team played solid defense behind her. “It was a total defensive effort,” E/I head coach Dick Griffin said. “We got out of some tight jams, and the girls kept their heads. We made the right plays all game long.” Fortunately for Elgin/Imbler, Santiam Christian cracked in the seventh. A one-out walk by Kiley Dewey set the wheels in motion. Bejia Robbins followed with a single. From the ninth spot in the order, Megan Myers sent a shot back through the middle, but instead of attempting a double play, the Eagles’ pitcher threw to first. With two out in the inning, Katie Griffin ripped a shot down the line. The Santiam Christian third baseman made a diving grab to keep the ball in the infield. Her throw, though, went past the first baseman allowing two runs to score. Ludwig picked up the win allowing three hits over seven innings of work, but struck out just two batters and walked three. She also finished with two hits at the plate. Griffin collected two hits. Elgin/Imbler will host Valley Catholic Tuesday.
