ENTERPRISE — Teams of the Blue Mountain Conference, take notice — there is a buzz around Enterprise football again.

The Outlaws brought back an old face — Chuck Corak — to turn around a team that hasn’t won more than three games in each of the last three seasons.

Well, with a 34-0 shutout win against Union Friday night, the Outlaws are now 3-0 in 2009.

“I know everyone is trying to give me all the credit here,” Corak said. “But there is a lot more to it than just me.”

That would include Corak’s assistants, who he chose specifically to come and coach with him to make Enterprise relevant again.

Kevin McCadden, who Corak calls an offensive genius, may have more to do with the Outlaws’ success so far than Corak has.

“Kevin is so involved around here, it really makes it easy on me,” Corak said.

The other two assistants, Mike Rowley and Sam Magera are also responsible for the sudden turnaround.

“All of these guys are football gurus. I can’t do as much as I used to, but with my assistants I really don’t have to. I’m just here to help,” Corak said.

The Union game was the first chance the Outlaws had at showing their new product to the hometown fans.

Enterprise got on the board with 5:27 remaining in the first quarter on a five-yard touchdown run by Brock Hayes.

Marcus Lynn then broke a 22-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, followed by a 10-yard touchdown pass to Matt Parren from Kyle Stangel to give the Outlaws a 20-0 halftime lead.

The first half was marred by sloppy play from both sides. Union had a number of opportunities to make some plays but ended up hurting themselves with turnovers and penalties.

Enterprise also struggled with penalties, tallying 160 penalty yards for the game.

“We need to be more disciplined,” Corak said. “I already know what we’re going to work on in practice this week.”

The third quarter was the most competitive of the game, with neither team getting anything going offensively in a scoreless period.

Lynn scored his second touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter on a 24-yard run, extending the Outlaws’ lead to 26-0.

Then with 6:27 left in the game, Chaunce Galletly intercepted an Austin Woodward pass and took it 41 yards to pay dirt to close out the game.

“I’m pleased with what we did today,” Corak said. “Union is a talented team and I thought they played us real tight.”

Lynn finished the game with 156 yards rushing, while Stangel was five of 12 passing for 74 yards. Enterprise tallied 358 total yards for the game.

For Union, Justin Hammer led the team with 25 yards rushing, while Woodward was 6 for 18 passing with three interceptions. The Bobcats had 121 yards of total offense.

Enterprise plays host to Irrigon in their next game, while Union has to travel to Pilot Rock for a match-up with the Rockets Friday.

Heppner hammers Huskies

ELGIN — After having a 7-6 lead over Heppner after one quarter of play, Elgin surrendered 53 unanswered points in a disappointing 59-7 loss to the Mustangs Friday night.

Chris Lein started the scoring for Heppner is the first quarter on a 19-yard run. The Huskies responded by driving down the field to the one-yard line where Tanner Hallgarth punched it in to give Elgin the lead.

But that was all the offense that Elgin would have on the night, as Heppner would go on to score 34 points in the second quarter to blow open the game.

Elgin had 121 yards of total offense for the game, while Heppner put up 435 yards in all, including 319 yards on the ground.
