Enterprise maintains Wapita League lead

ELGIN The Elgin girls basketball team played even with Enterprise for three quarters. In the fourth quarter, Enterprise stole the momentum and won its ninth-straight Wapiti League game.

Enterprise outscored Elgin 15-8 in the final period of its 54-49 win.

Lacey Nobles calmly sunk a 3-pointer with 1:24 left in the game, giving Enterprise the lead, 51-49, for good.

Elgin (8-8 overall, 4-5 league) would remain scoreless the rest of the way.

Even in defeat, Elgin coach Randy McKone is proud of his team.

We showed up tonight, McKone said.

In their previous meeting Jan. 11, Enterprise (14-3, 9-0) beat Elgin 62-25.

They knew they had a game today, McKone said.

Elgins Leanne Foster said she feels good about how the team played.

This is probably the best we played together as a team, she said.

Foster scored 14 points.

Elgins DeLeah Wiles said the Huskies always look forward to playing Enterprise.

This is always our team we want to meet, Wiles said. Im just glad we gave them a game.

Wiles said the team came out and played hard.

We were determined to win, Wiles said. We had nothing to lose.

Wiles had a team-high 23 points.

Kazzie Dawson scored 14 points for Enterprise, and Ashley Anderson added 13 points. Enterprise has won 10 in a row and clinched a district tournament berth with the victory.

Union overcomes Nyssa

NYSSA The Union perimeter players were too hot for Nyssa to defend Friday night.

Union (7-10, 5-4) beat Nyssa, 75-32.

It was a good all-around effort, Union coach Wayne Herron said.

Herron said Nyssa tried to pack and take away the post play, but that left the perimeter open and his Bobcats took advantage.

Ammi Kucera of Union drained three 3-pointers and Kallin Prince nailed two 3-pointers.

Herron said Union shot 50 percent from the field.

Jana Brotherton of Union had 17 points, four blocks and eight rebounds.

Imbler wins at FT line

WALLOWA The Imbler Panthers shot 75 percent from the free throw line in the fourth quarter Friday and came from behind to beat the Wallowa Cougars 34-29 in Wapiti League girls basketball action.

We put them in the bonus early in the fourth quarter, Wallowa coach Greg Oveson said. They were 9-for-12 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Amy Clerget scored 11 points to pace Imbler (15-4, 8-1). Amanda Wilson led Wallowa (7-11, 2-7) with eight points.

I was pretty happy with the way we played for most of the game, Oveson said. Our defense was basically pretty good.

Wallowa hosts Enterprise today, while Imbler hosts Joseph.

Powder Valley wins big

PRAIRIE CITY Joelle Bains 17 points led Powder Valleys 64-35 Old Oregon League girls basketball romp Friday over the Prairie City Panthers.

She had a lot of rebounds and putbacks, Powder Valley coach Allen Bingham said.

Amanda Bingham added 14 points for Powder Valley (15-2 overall, 8-0 league), which hosts second-place Cove this afternoon.

Our team shot the ball well tonight, Allen Bingham said. A lot of kids hit outside shots.
