Enterprise wins season opener

Enterprise welcomed back Chuck Corak with a 25-6 win over Dayton, Wash., to start the season Thursday night.

Corak, in his second stint with Enterprise after retiring 10 years ago, was talked into coming back to coach until a replacement is found, most likely one of his assistants.

But the way the Outlaws played Thursday, they might want to think about keeping Corak for as long as they can.

Enterprise came out and established a dominant running game against the Bulldogs, running for 256 yards and three scores.

“The kids did a lot of good things out there. We have a strong offensive line so we wanted to establish the running game and control the ball,” Corak said.

Jake Girtz led the Outlaws with 130 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown. Marcus Lynn carried the ball 13 times for 68 yards and a score.

Kyle Stangel only threw the ball four times for Enterprise, completing two passes for 38 yards. Both completions were to Jared Micka, with one going for a touchdown.

In all the Outlaws compiled 294 yards of total offense for the game.

The defense held Dayton to 213 yards of offense, including just 122 yards rushing in the dangerous and effective spread offense.

“We saw some tape on them from the week before and had a chance to prepare for their offense,” Corak said. “Everyone seems to be switching to the spread, so I’m sure we’ll see it again this season.”

For a guy that has been away from coaching for 10 years, Corak didn’t seem to miss a beat in his season debut.

“Well I have a good group of assistants here. I’m just keeping the seat warm and working with the kids through a transition period for Enterprise football,” Corak said.

“For that being our first game of the season I think we did a lot of things right out there.” Special teams was an issue, but that always takes some time early on in the year. Overall I thought we played a fairly clean game to start the season.”

Corak and the rest of the Outlaws travel to Liberty Christian (Wash.) for their next game Sept. 18.
