FIRST PLACE WILL BE ON THE LINE FOR LA GRANDE, ONTARIO BOYS SATURDAY
The La Grande basketball boys will play a pivotal home game, with first place on the line, Saturday night against Ontario.
La Grande is 4-0 in Greater Oregon League play heading into tonight's road game at Vale.
Vale has a very tough gym as La Grande lost there last year after walloping the Vikings easily in La Grande.
However, win or lose today, Saturday's game against Ontario, which has been in the top 10 polls all season, will still be for first place. Ontario is also 4-0 in GOL play and is hosting Burns tonight, a game Ontario should win.
The Ontario and La Grande boys begin at 7:30 p.m. The La Grande girls, who are 3-1 in league play and in the running for the playoffs, take on Ontario at 6 p.m. Ontario is also 3-1 in the GOL, so both teams have a lot on the line in this one, as well.
The La Grande and Ontario girls had a memorable game in La Grande last year. Ontario came in to that game ranked No. 1 in the state, but La Grande, which had been No. 1 for much of the season until point guard Lindsey Carmichael tore her ACL, demolished Ontario.
The Eastern men and women also have home games this weekend.
The women, ranked No. 23 in the nation and in first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference by two games at 9-1 (16-2 overall) play Warner Pacific tonight and Cascade Saturday.
The men, who have played a staggering six overtime games this season, losing five (essentially, the men have played an entire extra game counting all their overtime periods), will try to bounce back after a triple overtime loss on the road earlier this week to Concordia. The men are 4-7 in CCC and are seeking to solidify a playoff spot.
The women's games start at 5:30 p.m., while the men's games begin at 7:30 p.m.
