FIVE LA GRANDE WRESTLERS IN MUILENBURG SEMIS

It has been a successful Brian Muilenburg Wrestling Tournament so far for the La Grande wrestling squad, as five out of 15 Tigers have made it to the semifinals in their respective weight classes.

D.J. May (112 pounds), Jeremy Blakely (140), Michael Godfrey (152), Chris Tinnin (160) and Dennis O'Reilly (171) all made it to the "final four" in their classes Friday.

Semifinals and finals, as well as consolation matches, will take place all day today at La Grande High School beginning at 9 a.m.

La Grande wrestlers were the only local wrestlers to make it to the semis.

More than 300 wrestlers from 16 high schools in Idaho and Oregon are participating in the tournament.

D.J. May made the semis with a first-round pin, by a 10-5 decision and with a second-round pin in the quarterfinals.

Jeremy Blakely is in the semis thanks to a first-round pin, then another first-round pin in the quarterfinals. Godfrey qualified by winning his first match with a second-round pin, his second match with a second-round pin, then his quarterfinal match by an 8-2 decision.

Tinnin is in the semis with a second-round pin and then a 15-4 decision in the semifinals. O'Reilly made it by winning his first match 8-7, his second match 16-5, then his quarterfinal match with a pin in the third round.

Several other local wrestlers, mostly from La Grande, could finish as high as third.

Ben Nelson of Powder Valley (130 pounds) is in the third-fourth place bracket today, as is La Grande's Dino May (145), La Grande's Jared Blakely (160) and the Tigers' Tyrell Grove (215).
