Friday Boys Basketball Roundup: La Grande stays unbeaten in league play

Badgers take down Panthers

Inspite of a stellar effort by Ontario’s Jason Hauter, the La Grande boys basketball team picked up a 65-50 win in a battle between the Greater Oregon Leagues only undefeated teams.

The rest of Ontario’s roster couldn’t seem to find the bottom of the basket. La Grande (13-2 overall, 3-0 GOL) on the other hand, kept the passing tight and set up one basket after another.

Brandon Dall had a team-high 18 points for La Grande. Troy Williams added 14 points, making 5-of-8 free-throws attempts. Jake Powell scored all nine of his points in the second quarter.

Hauter finished with a game-high 27 points. Ryan Hawker added seven points for Ontario (12-5 overall, 2-1 GOL).

No. 5 La Grande will travel to Burns for a 5:30 pm. game tonight.

NORTH POWDER — Back at full strength, and at home, the Powder Valley boys basketball team picked up a statement win against Imbler Friday night.

Quinn Stephens returned after missing time with the team to led the 77-47 win. Stephens scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the third quarter.

In the last meeting, Jan. 11, Imbler picked up a 53-49 win. But this game looked, and nearly finished, the same way the first meeting did, a 77-48 win by the Badgers at the La Grande Optimist Christmas Classic Dec. 28.

Powder Valley pushed the lead to 20 points a minute into the third quarter, 43-23, and kept that cushion the rest of the game.

Tyler Robinson finished with 14 points, while Logan Allen added 12 points. Brock Jones scored 10 points.

Imbler was led by Trace VanCleave with 16 points. Luke Silbernagle and Eli Bowers each scored eight points.

Imbler (14-3, overall, 5-1 OOL) will travel to Pine Eagle, while Powder Valley will travel to Joseph tonight. Both games are set for 5:30 p.m.
