Friday Boys Basketball Roundup: Pratt, Benites lead Badgers past Wallowa
POWDER VALLEY — Seniors Marcus Pratt and Jason Benites each scored 17 points, and the Powder Valley Badgers boys basketball team picked up an 89-30 win against Wallowa Friday night.
Pratt scored 11 of those points in the first quarter, helping the Badgers jump out to a 24-4 lead after the first eight minutes of play. Pratt nearly outscored Wallowa at the half, 13-11, and as a team Powder Valley had 40 points on the board.
Benites’ big quarter came in the third, scoring eight points.
Chaz Murray led Wallowa with 10 points, while Cole Hafer added six points.
Tyler Robinson and Brock Jones each added 11 points for the Badgers.
Powder Valley (13-1 overall, 3-1) will host Cove at 5:30 p.m. tonight. The Leopards enter the game with a 50-33 win against Pine Eagle Friday night.
Wallowa (2-13, overall, 1-4 OOL) will have Saturday off, and will travel to Pine Eagle for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday.
Panthers stay perfect in league play
IMBLER — Joseph jumped out to a five-point lead early against the Imbler boys basketball team, but couldn’t keep the momentum going during a 72-44 loss Friday.
Cayden DeLury knocked down a 3-point basket to give the Eagles an 8-3 lead. Kyle Johnson hit the final basket for the Panthers with 30 seconds left in the first quarter, capping a 16-0 run fueled by 10 Joseph turnovers.
Johnson went 5-of-5 from the floor, and finished with a team-high 14 points. The senior guard added six rebounds and four assists.
Trace Vancleave scored 13 points, while Eli Bowers finished with 12 points.Vancleave had a team-high seven rebounds, helping Imbler outrebound the Eagles 37-20.
Hunter VanLeuven added eight points off the bench for the Panthers.
DeLury finished with a team-high 13 points, while Will Story added 10 points.
The Panthers (14-2 overall, 5-0) will travel to Powder Valley for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday. Joseph (4-11 overall, 0-4 OOL) will travel to Pine Eagle seeking its first league win today at 5:30 p.m.
