Friday Girls Prep Roundup: La Grande wins league battle

The La Grande girls basketball team beat Ontario in a Greater Oregon League matchup 56-44 Friday.

For La Grande, Avery Albrecht scored a game high 19 points, making 7-of-10 from the free-throw line. Auslin McDaniel-Perrin finished with 15 points, while Kylin Collman added 14 points.

Ontario’s Riley Helmick finished with 15 points, while Cheye Anderson added nine points. Rylee Salutregui scored five points.

The Tigers (10-5 overall, 3-0 GOL) will travel to Burns for a 4 p.m tipoff today.


NORTH POWDER — The Powder Valley girls basketball team got a confidence boosting win against Imbler Friday night.

Bailee Allen finished off a frustrating three quarters to lead the Badgers to a 43-41 Old Oregon League win, locking the two teams in a tie for second in the league standings.

Imbler led by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter, but Allen cut the lead to 41-35 with 2:16 left in the game. Following two more baskets by Allen, Alexandra Colton hit a runner to tie the game at 41-all with 28.6 seconds left.

Imbler had the ball with 2.6 seconds left in the backcourt, but the inbound pass went out-of-bounds without being touched, allowing Powder Valley one more shot in regulation. Allen rolled off two screens, took the inbound pass from Colton, and put up a final shot. The ball it the front of the rim and crawled over for the game-winner.

Allen and Colton each scored 12 points, while Sally Blair had a team-high 13 points.

Emma Bowers led Imbler with 11 points. Katie Barry added 10 points. Malia Mills and Ally Fullerton scored six points, apiece.

Imbler (12-5 overall, 4-2 OOL) will travel to Pine Eagle for a today, while Powder Valley (10-5 overall, 4-2 OOL) will travel to Joseph. Both games are set for 4 p.m.
