JOSEPH — Defending Wapiti League champ Joseph had a spectacular shooting game from the floor against Riverside Friday, as the Eagles won 70-58.

Joseph shot 65.8 percent from the field (27-for-41) in the Eagles' season-opener. That hot shooting overcame a tough game at the free-throw line (16-43).

Joseph opened up a 37-19 lead at the half, and they held on during the second half to keep Riverside from threatening too much. "I was really pleased with them," said coach Ron Lathrop. "For the most part, they played very well."

Cole Lathrop led the Eagles with 25 points on 11-for-16 shooting from the field. Eric Butterfield shot 6-for-7 from the field and ended up with 18. Cory Otten scored 14.
