A strong first half powered the Eastern Oregon women's basketball team past Albertson Saturday.

Even though the Coyotes cut the Mountaineers' 21-point second half lead to six points with less than a minute remaining, Eastern held on and came away with a 65-56 Cascade Collegiate Conference win.

Eastern coach Anji Weissenfluh said the Mountaineers are playing good team ball.

"Everyone did their job," she said.

Jamie Jo Cant led the Mountaineers with 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting. Tricia Haddock had 14 points, six assists and five steals.

Weissenfluh said the bench play from Christie Weaver, Sandy Isbell and Michelle Kinley was, "tremendous."

Weaver hit three 3-pointers for nine points. Isbell had four points. Kinley had eight points, eight rebounds and three steals.

The 'Yotes had a 17-11 lead with 12:51 remaining in the first half.

Then, the Mountaineers went on a 25-4 run to close the half.

Back-to-back Weaver treys put the Mountaineers up 52-31 with 11:59 remaining in the second half.

However, the 'Yotes went on a 15-2 run to slice the Mountaineer lead to 54-46 with 5:25 remaining. Danielle Cotterell had three treys during the run. Cotterell finished with 18 points.

The Mountaineers answered with jumpers from Kinley and Cant to put them in front 58-46.

The Coyotes (2-3 CCC, 4-8 overall) went on a 10-4 run to cut the Mountaineer lead to six points. Kinley and Haddock's free throws sealed the win.

Eastern Oregon (4-1, 10-2) will play Western Baptist at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
