ISLAND CITY — A little adversity drove the La Grande softball team to finish strong. The Tigers split a doubleheader with Mac-Hi Tuesday. Missed opportunities led to a 4-2 loss in Game 1. “It’s frustrating because we knew we had a chance,” LHS head coach Kevin Kohr said. Amanda Kingt silenced La Grande’s bats, cruising through five scoreless innings. The Tigers struck in the sixth on a Boo Christman double, scoring Sidney Brown. La Grande carried over the momentum and picked up a 12-7 win in Game 2. Shelby Hasse and company broke open the see-saw battle in the fifth. Hasse opened the inning with a single. Before an out could be recorded, the Tigers strung together eight hits. Brown and Paige Aldred collected doubles during the string. Hasse and Christman led La Grande with three hits in the game. “It’s a big confidence booster for the girls,” Kohr said. “I like the direction this team is going. There’s no quit in them.”
