REDMOND — Redemption is an easy thing to find, if you don’t go looking for it.

Enterprise’s Heather Bruce bounced back from two bad holes Monday to place in the top-10 at the 4A/3A/2A/1A Girls State Golf  Tournament.

“I relaxed a little bit,” Bruce said. “It helped that I have been here before. I wanted to come home with a flag.”

The “flag’’ meant dismissing her opening round 91, her worst score in three weeks.

Things didn’t look too good on the opening nine holes. Bruce collected a double bogey on the 319-yard par-4 sixth, and closed with a triple bogey on the par-5 ninth.

From there she envisioned the flag flapping in the wind, as if to say goodbye.

But after missing one goal — a top-five finish — Bruce wasn’t going to let another goal slip away.

She finished the back 1-over-par for ninth place.

“It feels good,” Bruce said. “All the hard work paid off from last summer and during the season. Now it’s time to start over again.”

Senior Miranda McCarthy also finished strong.

She lowered her score 13 strokes from Day 1 and finished shooting a 120.

“It’s tough making your first trip to state,” Crawford said. “It’s a different game. Everything is a little faster.”

Calls to the La Grande girls golf team were not returned. Results from the Tigers seventh-place finish will run in Thursday’s edition.
