Henry’s 94 leads Tigers varsity golf

BAKER CITY — With a wrench into the match-play plans, La Grande adjusted to a stroke play format in Baker City Wednesday.

The match play format went out the window when one team failed to show up.

With three teams competing, the Tigers boys golf team finished third with a team score of 409.

Ontario finished first with a 339.

Struggling with a sore back, Mitchell Henry carded a 94 to pace La Grande.

Freshman Kyle Sandoval shot a 107 in his first varsity tournament.

“He kept the ball in play,” Tigers head coach Ron Evans said. “That’s the name of the game. We can work from here to trim his score for the next event.”

Maybe — La Grande is a virtual crap shoot, shooting out four different scorers nearly every round.

“The boys are keeping it in perspective,” Evans said. “We pressed a little bit today. But they understand that we’re young, and it’s going to take time.”

La Grande will host a home invitational Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the La Grande Country Club.

Tigers scores

Henry 94, Sandoval 107, Mutch 107, Fregulia 122, Gianandre 111.
