Powder Valley airs it out against Cove to spoil Leopards’ homecoming

COVE — Chace Dixon helped key an aerial assault to lead Powder Valley to a crucial 55-18 Special District 4 win over Cove Friday.

“We try not to look ahead,” Badgers head coach Dan Townsend said. “But we knew if we won this game we could control our own destiny the rest of the way.

“When we showed up today it was a treat to see the great weather.”

That weather allowed Dixon to toss the ball all over the field, including four touchdown passes in the first quarter.

Quin Stephens hauled in the first two scores of the game, from 35 and 14 yards out.

“Having the big receivers is a huge asset for us,” Townsend said. “Over the last two weeks the guys have worked hard on running better routes and making plays. Each week we are improving and that’s fun to watch.”

Tyler Robinson hauled in a pair of passes to make the score 27-0 after the first quarter.

Robinson caught passes of 35 and 33 yards in the span of 15 seconds.

Cove couldn’t recover a long kickoff after Robinson’s first touchdown. That set up a one-play drive to the senior wide receiver.

“It’s tough for teams to defend us,” Stephens said. “We have a lot of weapons all over the field.”

Dixon finished the game 20-of-30 for 301 yards with five touchdowns.

Stephens hauled in seven receptions for 123 yards with a pair of touchdowns. He also carried the ball nine times for 63 yards.

Robinson had 142 yards on five receptions.

Jake Grammon added six receptions for 38 yards.

The Badgers improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the district.

Cove falls to 2-5 and 2-1 in the district.

The Leopards face Imbler at 7 p.m. Friday. Powder Valley will travel to Wallowa Friday.

Panthers cage Eagles

JOSEPH — For the second straight week the Imbler football team stormed out of the gate to defeat a team from Wallowa County. Last week, Wallowa fell behind 62-0 at the half, this time it was Joseph that fell behind 50-0 after two quarters.

The Panthers were led by junior running back Joe
Griffin’s four touchdowns during a 56-6 Special District 4 win Friday.

Griffin carried the ball 10 times for 183 yards.

Quarterback Kyle Johnson completed 8-of-10 pass attempts for 105 yards. He also carried the ball five times
for 66 yards with three
touchdowns.

Luke Silbernagle led the Panthers with two receptions for 59 yards, and finished with 94 all-purpose yards.

Imbler improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in Special District 4. The Eagles dropped to 1-2 in district and 1-5 overall.

The Panthers travel to Cove for a 7 p.m. game Friday. Joseph travels to Pine Eagle for a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday.

Spartans cruise
past Wallowa

HALFWAY — The Wallowa football team remains winless after a 54-6 loss to Pine Eagle Friday in a Special District 4 matchup.

The Cougars are 0-5 overall and 0-3 in district. The Spartans snapped a three-game losing streak with the win and improve to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in district.

Wallowa hosts Powder Valley Friday at 2 p.m.
