Huskies hound Knights, Heppner routs Union

IRRIGON — Elgin improved its record to 2-3 with its second consecutive win. The Huskies defeated Irrigon Friday 49-19. It looked like it was going to be a competitive game early on with both teams scoring in the first quarter, but Elgin blew it open with four straight touchdowns to close out the half. “We played really well,” head coach Lance Lovitt said. “The offense is starting to come together, and the defense always shows up and plays hard. The Huskies had two 100-yard rushers for the game. Dalton Moore racked up 120 yards on 21 carries, while Tanner Hallgarth had 101 yards on 15 carries.Moore also completed 10 passes for 137 yards for the game. Jared Harris had three catches for a team-high 60 yards. Mustangs roll past UnionUNION — Heppner jumped all over Union Friday night in a 52-6 win over the Bobcats. The Mustangs had a number of long runs and returned a punt for a touchdown in the first half to lead 46-0 at halftime. Heppner played the clock in the second half while Union never got anything going. “Heppner does a lot of things really well,” Union head coach Chad Huddleston said. “Their offense is a little deceptive and if you don’t stay at home then they are going to have some big plays.” Austin Woodward finished the game completing five of 16 passes for 44 yards. Woodward also ran the ball eight times for 15 yards. Ritter Warren had three catches for 37 yards for the Bobcats, while Jesse Gregory had two receptions for seven yards. Union will be on the road next week when it travels to play Stanfield. After tying the game with just 1:39 remaining in regulation, the Rockets capitalized on an Enterprise fumble in the overtime session to score on a nine-yard pass. “It was a hard-fought ball game,” Enterprise head coach Chuck Corak said. “I’m real proud with how the kids played. We just let it slip away there late.” Jake Girtz ran the ball 15 times for 50 yards for the Outlaws, while Marcus Lynn had 70 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. Kyle Stangel only threw the ball three times for zero yards. Corak said he was pleased with how the defense played for the most part, and praised the efforts of Girtz, Jamyes Butterfield and Michael Baty. Enterprise will try to regroup next week when it travels to Elgin for a showdown with the Huskies.
