Huskies pick up non-league win during sweep
HELIX — The Elgin volleyball team picked up a non-league victory over Helix/Griswold Tuesday. The Lady Huskies won 25-13, 25-15, 25-22.
“It was a good match. Everyone played really well,” Elgin head coach Carmen Gentry said.
Gentry credited Miah Slater for defending the net and said Stormy Silver played good back-row defense. Aria Higgins and Jordyn Anderson set up the hitters for Elgin.
The win improves the Huskies to 8-11 overall and they remain 5-7 in the Blue Mountain Conference. Helix/Griswold drops to 4-11 overall and is still 2-6 in the Big Sky League.
Elgin plays at Weston-McEwen Thursday at 6 p.m.
Imbler gets No. 20
WALLOWA — The Imbler volleyball team won its 20th game of the season Tuesday night, defeating Wallowa 25-20, 25-12, 25-10 in an Old Oregon League match.
“After struggling in serve receive during the first set, the girls made the necessary adjustments and took control of the final two,” Panthers head coach Jennifer Teeter said.
Jacey Teeter led Imbler with 30 assists and eight digs. Ally Fullerton was 14-for-14 serving with four aces and eight digs, while Malia Mills added 14 kills and 11 digs. Emma Bowers had eight kills, and Hannah Wilhelm was 10-for-10 serving with 13 digs and four kills.
Imbler improves to 20-0 overall and is 9-0 in the OOL. Wallowa drops to 5-12 overall and 4-5 in the league.
Imbler hosts Cove at 4 p.m. Friday and Wallowa hosts Powder Valley.
