Huskies pound out win against Bulldogs

BAKER — First game back from spring break, no problem.

Elgin crushed the Baker junior varsity baseball team Tuesday, 20-4 in six innings, improving to 4-0 overall.

James Hardy earned the win on the mound, and the Huskies’ bats swatted 15 hits.

Leading the way were Dalton Moore (two triples, double), Dillan Moore (two doubles), Travis Ludwig (double) and Jared Harris (double).

“We just absolutely crushed the ball,” said Elgin coach Greg Luse, whose team scored 11 runs in the sixth inning. “We’re starting off where we left off.

“It seemed like everybody contributed.”

Elgin will host Umatilla at noon Saturday.

Walker leads Bobcats around the track

JOHN DAY — Senior Shoshoni Walker led the way for the Union track and field team at the Grant Union Invite Tuesday.

Walker grabbed a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:49.72.

Anna Courtney and Brenna Miller took home a third-place medal.

Courtney recorded a mark of 30 feet, 10 inches in the triple jump for her medal.

Miller passed over the 4-foot, 6-inch mark to place third.

Daniel Mitchell’s sixth-place finish in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles paced the boys team.

The Bobcats will travel to the Don Walker Lions’ Invitational hosted by Nyssa High School. Field events start at 1 p.m., and track events begin at 3 p.m.
