Not exactly great conditions for Elgin girls, yet they fought through all of it, winning their varsity track meet Thursday at Union High.

Three first-place finishes for Jess McClune. Two first-place finishes for Megan Jarrell. And a pack of Huskies who helped their team leave with a dominating 54-point victory margin.

Another strong showing. Another victory.

Is this expected by now?

“I was expecting a top finish, but not expecting their strongest marks,” said Elgin coach Chad Peck, whose Huskies are transitioning into speed training in weekly practices.

“I was hoping we could get out of there without any injuries, and it all worked out.”

It sure did. 

McClune won the 100-meter, 200-meter and 100-high hurdles races; Jarrell won the shot put and discus events; five Huskies placed second; and three placed third.

Domination, it was.

That, too, can be said for those Enterprise boys, who finished 43 points above second-place Union.

Leading the way for the Outlaws was Matt Fischer, who placed first in the 110-high and 300-intermediate hurdles. Also, Matt Perren (high jump) and Jacob Lynn (discus) won events, too, while Dusty McAuliffe (400-meters) and Jake Gritz (javelin) each placed second.

So that’s a strong display from Elgin girls. A strong display from Enterprise boys. And yet another strong display from Union High as track meet hosts.

“It was another good home meet,” Union coach Brad Dunten said. “It was just an overall good day.”
