HALFWAY — Five Imbler basketball boys scored in double figures against Pine-Eagle Friday, leading to a 86-61 Wapiti League win.

Tanner McIntosh led the Panthers with 21 points followed by Ethan Davis with 14, and Colin Culbreth and Trevor Crow with 12 apiece, and Alan O'Donald 10.

The Panthers (11-1 overall, 3-0 league) host Nyssa today.

Cove boys beat Powder Valley

COVE — After last week's tough basketball loss to Wallowa, the Cove boys set the tone early against the Powder Valley Badgers Friday.

The Leopards (7-5 overall, 4-1 Old Oregon League) jumped out to a 14-6 lead in the first quarter and controlled the Badgers in their 71-42 Old Oregon League victory.

"Our defense was strong in the first quarter — attacking," Cove coach Todd Gorham said. "We dictated the tempo."

Devan Frank was the Leopard's top scorer with 19 points, followed by Josh Pfel with 16 and Jason Hagey with 12.

Deven Thompson scored 16 points for the Badgers.

The Leopards play at Crane today, while the Badgers (3-11, 1-4) are off until Friday when they host Crane.

Enterprise stuns Joseph 56-54

ENTERPRISE — Enterprise's Kevin Gomes hit two clutch free throws with 2.3 seconds remaining to ice a 56-54 Wapiti League upset over Joseph Friday.

Enterprise coach Duff Pace said it had been eight years since Enterprise has beaten the Eagles.

"This truly was a really good win for my players," he said.

Enterprise was led by Tim Gilbert's double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds. Gilbert scored 11 points in the third quarter.

Eric Butterfield scored 17 points to lead the Eagles (4-9 overall, 0-3 league).

Enterprise (6-5, 2-1) plays at Union today, while Joseph hosts Elgin.

Wallowa boys crush Adrian 79-39

ADRIAN — A stifling defense carried the Wallowa basketball boys over Adrian in a 79-39 Old Oregon League win Friday.

"We pressured the ball quite a bit in the first half," Wallowa coach Gerry McLain said. "They couldn't handle the press."

The Cougars had easy baskets off a lot of steals, he said.

Ryan Harshfield led the Cougars with 25 points, followed by Randy Spaur with 20.

The Cougars (4-9 overall, 3-1 OOL) host Prairie City today.

ELGIN — The Elgin basketball boys limited their turnovers in their 67-51 Wapiti League win over Union Friday.

"The kids played with a lot of confidence tonight," Elgin coach Kyle Evans said. "They really gelled tonight."

Charlie Schumacher had 16 points to lead the Huskies.

Jeremy Shankel scored 12 points for the Bobcats.

The Huskies (4-7 overall, 1-3 in Wapiti League) play at Joseph today, while the Bobcats (2-9, 0-3) host Enterprise.
