BAKER CITY—An explosive run to open the second half propelled Imbler past Cove, 53-32, sending them into the district title game tonight versus Joseph at 8:15.

Want to see balanced scoring? Here it is: Each Panther found the bottom of the cylinder — 11 of them, that is, and not one was in double digits.

“We try and pick people up, we try to wear people down, because we can keep rotating people,” Imbler coach Barry Bowers said.

“That’s usually how it shows up in the stats.”

Demetria Thompson and Madeline Nilsson scored eight each, Kiley Dewey, Sarah Bowers and Liz Eckstein scored six each.

Imbler ripped off a 14-2 run to open the third quarter, turning a tight affair into a rout.

“They turned up a notch on their defense,” Cove coach Jason Gorham said. “They really came out with a lot of intensity after halftime.

For Cove, Katy Puckett and Beth Yergen scored nine points each and Mariah Murchison had seven.

The Leopards will play Powder Valley today at 2:15 p.m. in the third place game. With a win, they’ll advance into the state tournament.

“That’s been our goal all season long,” Gorham said. “That’s where we want to finish the season, is in the state playoffs.

“The kids are excited about it, and they’re ready for it.”
